About Casper
What is Casper?
Casper is an open-response situational judgment test used by participating admissions programs. It asks how you would approach realistic situations and why, rather than testing memorized academic subject matter.
The questions ask you to explain your reasoning through typed and video responses. Relevant qualities include communication, empathy, fairness, collaboration, and professional judgment.
Acuity Insights uses trained human raters for the actual test. Feedback from a preparation platform is a separate study aid and should not be treated as an official Casper score.
Who is it for?
Applicants to programs that require Casper, including selected health-professions programs. Requirements and test types vary by program and region.
Only programs that require Casper determine whether you need it, which test type they accept, and how they use results. Requirements can vary by program and location.
Check your intended programs before booking. Match their accepted dates and distribution requirements to the Casper test type shown in your Acuity Insights account.
What does it cover?
Situational judgment, communication, empathy, ethics, collaboration, and problem solving. It is not a subject-knowledge exam.
Scenarios can involve interpersonal disagreements, competing responsibilities, ethical concerns, or incomplete information. Your response should explain how you would understand the situation and choose a constructive next step.
In your study sessions, consider whose perspective is missing, what you still need to know, and how your response could affect others. Aim for clear reasoning in your own words instead of memorized scripts.
How is it structured?
The standard Casper format has 11 scenarios: four with video responses and seven with typed responses, taking approximately 65–85 minutes including optional breaks. Selected programs use a different format; check your registered test type.
The standard format described by Acuity Insights has video-response and typed-response sections. Some programs use a different format, so follow the instructions for the test type you register for.
Use the official practice test to experience the response windows and transitions. Check your camera, microphone, and internet connection so technical issues do not distract you from explaining your thoughts.
How can I prepare?
Try the official practice test, check your camera and microphone, and practice explaining balanced responses to unfamiliar situations in your own words.
Begin with the official practice test in your Acuity Insights account. Work on answering the question directly, acknowledging relevant perspectives, and explaining the reasons for your proposed action.
For video practice, speak clearly and review whether your answer is easy to follow. For typed practice, prioritize a complete, understandable response over elaborate wording or trying to fill every available second.
